The Body Shop Oils Of Life Review

As the weather changes, our skin needs change as well.  With the heating coming on, and the outside temperatures dropping drastically, it’s really important to make sure your face is protected and moisturised to the best of your abilities to counteract the elements.

If you keep to the same skin care routine all year around, at this point you’re likely to suffer from dry skin, tightness after cleansing and possibly greasier skin because your skin is producing more oil to counteract the effects.

And that’s the thing to remember.  It’s important to quench your skin with the correct moisture so it can remain healthy- it needs to be hydrated but not greasy.

Many products on the market contain moisturising agents that ultimately clog the pores and lead to breakouts.  Or they just aren’t moisturising correctly so they don’t effectively deal with repairing dehydrated skin at a base level.

Which is where The Oils Of Life range from The Body Shop comes in…

This range contains cold-pressed seed oils, meaning the oils retain their nutrients and properties.  By using the oils from the seeds, they are using the most powerful part of the plant.  The part where the most concentrated source of life-giving nutrients are found.

The seed oils they decided to use are all known for their importance in skin care and they’re carefully selected.  They use black cumin oil, found from Egypt which is known for its high concentration of antioxidants- great for anti ageing and protecting your skin.  Rosehip oil from Chile which is famed for its skin repairing properties and camellia oil from China which is rich in oleic acid- great for hydrating skin without causing inflammation.

I won’t lie, I’m not usually the biggest fan of the skin care range from The Body Shop.  I love their body butters and shower products, but I have never rated their skin products highly.  I’ve found them relatively average.

However, this range is an absolute game changer.

I have been using the bi-phase essence lotion, the face oil and the face cream from the Oils Of life range for about a month now, and my skin has never felt more supple and happy- even through the transitional weather changes.

With skin that is ageing, it is important for me to find products that’ll help slow down that process while still giving my skin that essential push to deal with other issues that still occur in my 30’s.

I’ve been using these items as part of my nighttime routine.  While you could use them during the day, I find that mixing up your day and night-time regimes mean your skin is always working hard with the products you use, and it ultimately benefits from that.  Plus we often require different things from our skin care morning and night.

Personally I like to use my most hydrating products at night so that they have maximum time to soak in and take effect, leaving me waking up feeling like my skin has benefited for a good many hours.

The combination of these three products certainly provides my skin with the nutritional requirements it needs right now, so for the foreseeable future these items will remain part of my night time routine.

I thought it would be quite nice to show you my entire regime at night from start to end, so you can see how I use these products and how they fit into my entire routine.  Hope you like it.

    • It really doesn’t make your skin too greasy, but I wouldn’t want to use them before applying make up just in case. Over night though they’re brilliant because the oils work amazingly to reduce dehydration. I tend to suffer from greasy skin which I’ve noticed is a result of having dehydrated skin- so if anything they actually help with the grease aspect 🙂 x

    • Th whole range is brilliant, I’m not sure what my favourite item is to be honest, but the cream is so luxurious. x

  1. I love The Body Shop! It’s so nice to know that all their products are ethically sourced and not animal tested. I could spend a fortune in there!

    • They’re great aren’t they? I was seriously impressed by the three products.

    • I was the same, I thought they would make my skin worse particularly as I’m prone to breakouts. Turns out I was all wrong!

  2. Good God LondonMum talk about aptly timed!!!!! Somebody silly’s just spent a ‘kings ransom’ in such a scary place (for a special somebody) on such lotions & potions ha! Hope you got a F-o-C cauldron to stir it all in? I DIDN’T!! … you name it & somebody’s happy & got it!! … & I’m on the streets busking to clear it ha! Onwards LondonMum. ‘O.’

  3. I’ve been using the facial oil for a few weeks now and it’s really improved my skin. The formulation and scent is just beautiful.

    • me too. a few years ago I would have said there would have been no way I’d put oil on my face- turns out the skin experts are right lol x

    • So do I, I can have really sensitive skin that is so prone to breaking out if I use a product that doesn’t suit my skin type. It’s taken me years to realise that my skin isn’t oily as opposed to dehydrated which has been a revelation!

    • You definitely should. I never mention products I don’t like on the blog, so these trio come highly recommended. x

    • Exactly what I’ve always thought, but actually they don’t make the skin greasy at all, and definitely don’t increase any grease production. If anything I’ve found they’ve made it better because my skin is finally getting the hydration it needs so it’s producing the grease!
