I realise it has not been long since my previous skin care post, but I wanted to get the previous post up because I knew things were going to be changing, and that was the routine I had been following for quite some time and I’d had good results with.
As a brand ambassador for Destination Skin, my face is literally in their hands (my skin is currently peeling off my face after my first skin peel with them- more on this at a later date though), which includes the change in products I’m using on my skin. They want to give me the best help with anti ageing, and getting my skin into peak condition while tackling those signs of skin damage caused by sunlight, environmental factors, pollution, smoke etc. They don’t want to just give me products that provide quick visual changes, but they want to also work on the deeper layers of the skin and change the way in which my skin is managed, so it’s a stronger, healthier version of itself.
So I thought it would be worth letting you know what changes have been occurring in my routine.
Pre Cleanser (Night Only)
This hasn’t changed, I’m still using Kokoso Baby* to remove all traces of make up and dirt from the day, before starting a deeper cleanse.
Cleanser (Morning Only)
I have a little pot of C Infusion Cleanser* to refresh me in the morning. It’s not a heavy cleanser, but it’s packed with anti oxidants that helps slow the effects of harmful free radicals, so it’s a particularly useful and protective cleanser to start the day. It has a lovely orangey smell and is just a nice gentle cleanser. I use it on my skin dry, before adding a bit of water and continuing to massage it in. I then wipe it off with a warm, damp flannel.
Cleanser (Evening Only)
My evening cleanser has a bit more oomph to it. I’ve been prescribed the Obagi CLENZIderm Foaming Cleanser* which offers that wonderful deep clean that’s needed in the evenings. It removes all manner of dirt, but at £30.00 I don’t want to waste it removing my make up, which is why I use a pre cleanser before using this product. It has a lovely menthol smell, and honestly my skin feels so clean after using it. It contains 2% salicylic acid which helps to unclog pores and prevent breakouts. However, even though it does contain a percentage of acid, it’s strangely calming and soothing at the same time. Highly recommend this if you do suffer from breakouts but don’t want to strip your skin from all the natural oils it produces. I massage this dry onto my skin first, before adding a bit of water and foaming it up. I then wipe it off with a warm, damp flannel.
Toner (Morning and Evening)
I’ve been using Stratum C Menopause Skin Calming Toner* every morning and evening after my cleanse, since receiving from Sulis and Thermae to review. Don’t worry I’m not menopausal yet, but the product is full of ingredients that help tackle menopausal skin problems. Which coincidentally are issues of anti ageing. It’s an aloe vera based toner that contains coenzyme Q10 (produced naturally in the body but declines with age and is used to help protect against free radicals, and help with collagen and elastin production), hyaluron (helps retain water in the cells resulting in smoother skin, less wrinkles and skin softening) and many antioxidant protective properties. So tick, tick, tick from me!
Eye Cream (Morning and Night)
Try and tear me away from my beloved Kiehl’s Line Reducing Eye Brightening Concentrate. I dare you! This hasn’t changed from my previous routine.
Anti Oxidant and Sunscreen (Morning only)
The final part of my morning routine is the Skinceuticals Double Defence Kit- Phloretin CF*. The dropper is Phloretin CF, and is applied onto the skin first. I squeeze about 4 drops into the palm of my hand and make sure it is rubbed all over my face. It’s an anti oxidant treatment (that’s a big hit with many celebrities) that contains phloretin, vitamin c and ferulic acid that helps tackle existing and future skin damage. Not only does it protect the skin from free radicals but it also accelerates skin cell renewal giving a more youthful, radiant appearance. Some people hate the smell of it, but I really don’t think it’s that bad, and the scent doesn’t linger on the skin. It smells a bit like sesame oil I suppose. It’s expensive but certainly a product that really works.
The other product is the Mineral Radiance UV SPF50, it’s a tinted sunscreen that protects from UVA and UVB rays. It’s chemical free, paraben free and water-resistant. Even when the sun isn’t shining brightly it’s still damaging our skin, so having a broad spectrum sunscreen just keeps you protected after all that hard work with the previous products. This works brilliantly under make up as well. The liquid goes a long way and I make sure to cover my whole face.
Serum (Evening Only)
I have never heard of the Dermaquest brand, but my god, their serums are top-notch! Every night I make sure to use one of the two serums I have from them depending on what my skin needs more.
The Essential B5 Hydrating Serum* changed my skin from the first application. Using just one pump on my face, provided my dehydrated skin with lashings of moisture in a non greasy way. Using liposome technology, the serum penetrates deep into the skins layers and really works at making the skin drink up all the nutrients. It absorbs easily and quickly, leaving skin feeling really lovely. Waking up in the morning you can see the full benefits from applying this!
The other serum by Dermaquest is the C Infusion Serum*. It uses a potent but stable form of vitamin c and orange stem cells to tone and tighten the skin. It is also another powerful protector from free radicals, so it’s great for keeping the fine lines and wrinkles at bay. By using a pump of the creamy serum at night it helps continue the good work by dealing with sun damage and ageing issues while I’m sleeping.
Moisturiser (Evening Only)
I have a little pot of this to use nightly, it’s another Dermaquest product, and it’s from their essentials range. The Essential Moisturizer* is a lovely hydrating product. It provides the right nourishment, protection and balance that all skin needs. It helps to refine texture, smooth fine lines and give skin that lovely supple, taught silky soft look. It’s not too heavy or greasy and absorbs really well. It smells scrummy too!
