Maternity wear without the cost

I’m getting towards the end of my pregnancy now, so I’m refusing to buy any more maternity wear.  I’m attempting to make the maternity bits I bought back in the summer combined with my old pre-pregnancy clothes see me through until the end.  On Saturday night I had an engagement party to go to in Highbury and Islington at Hoxley and Porter. (Great bar, great mocktails, wonderful staff, amazing decor!)  So I thought I’d show you how I dressed for the occasion at 34 weeks pregnant.

The only maternity item I wore were the black Leigh jeans from Topshop.  Quite possibly the comfiest jeans in the world, and I have a feeling I’ll be wearing them post pregnancy for a variety of reasons, such as long haul flights.. with an expanding stomach section I won’t have to undo the top button of my jeans on flights ever again!  So really quite a useful purchase!

Everything else is from my wardrobe pre pregnancy.  I wore a simple stretchy white vest underneath my lacy top from Urban Outfitters by a brand called Mink Pink.  (If you’re struggling with vests I also found belly bands really useful.  I have one in black and one in a nude colour.  It just means all your tops can be worn and if you have a ‘belly poking out the bottom’ problem the belly band covers it!).

Because the event was a dressy event I really wanted to wear some heels so I opted for some small heeled black shoes I bought last year in the River Island sale.  My feet didn’t get tired at all because the heel was that bit lower than I would usually wear.  Brilliant heels for day wear post pregnancy as well!

I wore my favourite watch to jazz up the colours a little bit which I bought from Daniel Wellington.  It’s the Classic Cambridge version from their range which is appropriate as that’s where I grew up and went to school.  I want to get another one with a brown leather strap… Christmas wish list me thinks!

You’ll notice the huge bag I’m lugging around with me these days as well.  Because I’m at the stage where labour is imminent I have to carry around my maternity notes wherever I go, so the large black bag from Zara has been particularly useful.

My coat to keep me warm while walking the cold streets from car to bar is from Miss Selfridge, it has tartan accents and a pretty nifty fur-trimmed hood.

I had a great time celebrating my friends engagement/30th birthday and catching up with friends.  But I had to leave early and leave the others to carry on enjoying themselves.  I might be able to get away with clothes in pregnancy but I can’t escape being tired this far along!
